British Waterways has organiseda fun-packed day on the stretch of Regent’s Canal between Victoria Park, alongside Mile End Park to Limehouse Basin this Sunday from 12noon. Here’s our pick of the events. Fergus the Forager The wild man himself is leading guided walks at 12.30pm, 1.30pm, 2.30pm and3.30pm, pointing out the many culinary uses of wild plants found around the Regent’s Canal. Meet outside the Arts Pavilion, Mile End Park, E3 4QX.
‘The Taste Trail’ Nine participating cafés, restaurants and pubs, including The Pavilion Café in Victoria Park and The Grapes pub in Narrow Street, are offering free nibbles on Sunday from 12noon-4pm.
Free boat trips Experience the canal from the Jenny Wren, a traditional narrowboat that will be ferrying passengers for free between 12noon-4pm.
Limehouse history tours Jeremy Batch, lock keeper and local history expert, will be leading free walks of historic Limehouse at 12.30pm, 1.30pm, 2.30pm and 3.30pm from Limehouse Lock, off Narrow Street, E14 8EG.
Barbecue boat Oliekop, the barbecue boat, will be flame-grilling Thai food on the canal.
Old-fashioned ices A lot of lolly from an old-fashioned bicycle vendor. Flag her down as she cycles by. Palm Tree Live music all afternoon at this canal-side pub. 127 Grove Rd, E3 5BH (020 8980 2918)
Pond dipping at Mile End The Mile End Park Rangers are on hand to show youngsters the secretsof the many species inhabiting the park’s ponds.
Animal encounters Vic Taylor lets youngsters get up close to creepy crawlies and see their beautiful side. Walks at 12.15pm, 1.15pm, 2.15pm, 3.15pm, 4.15pm from outside the Arts Pavilion, Mile End Park, E3 4QX.
